Wike Suspends Education Secretary Over Unauthorised Circular On School Closure
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has suspended Dr. Danlami Hayyo, the Mandate Secretary for Education, over an unauthorized circular announcing the closure of government schools in Abuja.
The circular, allegedly issued by the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, claims schools would shut down on November 28, 2025, due to security concerns.
However, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, has described the report as “false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.”
He further says that no such decision was taken and that the academic calendar remains unchanged.
The FCTA assures residents, especially students, of adequate security measures, as ‘Operation Sweep’ has been resumed to reinforce safety in the capital.
Meanwhile, The suspended Education Secretary, Dr. Hayyo, has distanced himself from the circular, saying he was unaware of it and that the director had no authority to issue such a directive.
