Twenty-four students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State have regained their freedom, the Presidency has confirmed.

The schoolgirls were kidnapped on November 17 during an attack by armed men, sparking nationwide concern over the safety of schools in the North-West. Their release, announced on Friday, follows intensified joint operations involving the military, police and intelligence services.

President Bola Tinubu welcomed the development and commended security agencies for what he described as a coordinated and determined rescue effort. He also directed security forces to sustain pressure on criminal groups and ensure the release of other abducted persons still in captivity.

The President further ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to vulnerable communities and schools across the region to prevent future attacks.

More details on the rescue operation are expected from state and security authorities.
