Fayose Criticises Obasanjo in “Thank You” Message; Former President Responds
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has criticised former President Olusegun Obasanjo in what he described as a “Thank You” message following Obasanjo’s attendance at his recent birthday celebration.
The message, shared with the media in Abeokuta by Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, contained Fayose’s reactions to comments allegedly made by the former President at the event.
In the SMS, Fayose thanked Obasanjo for attending the celebration but condemned what he called the former President’s “irresponsible comments,” adding that he deliberately chose not to respond publicly at the venue. The former governor further accused Obasanjo of making derogatory remarks and referenced past criticisms directed at the former Nigerian leader.
Fayose also alleged that Obasanjo had acknowledged receiving money from him in the past and demanded its return.
Responding, Obasanjo issued a brief statement acknowledging the message, describing it as reflective of Fayose’s character. He added that the said money had been returned through the individual who originally delivered it.
The exchange adds a new chapter to the long-running and often public disagreements between the two political figures.
