Renowned Journalist, Dan Agbese, dies at 81
Renowned journalist and a co-founder of Newswatch magazine, Dan Agbese, is dead.
He was aged 81.
His death was confirmed by Family on Monday, November 17, 2025
The iconic journalist carved a niche for himself through his writing prowess and was instrumental in shaping modern investigative reporting in Nigeria
Agbese had an illustrious career, serving as editor of The Nigeria Standard and New Nigerian newspapers, and General Manager of Radio Benue.
He was also the Editor-in-Chief of Newswatch magazine until April 2010.
Some of his notable works include “Nigeria Their Nigeria”, “Fellow Nigerians”, “The Reporter’s Companion”, “Style: A Guide to Good Writing”, and “The Columnist’s Companion
Don Agbese is survived by his children grandchildren, and other relatives
