2026 World Cup Playoffs: Adams, Ejuke, Osimhen Fire Super Eagles Past Gabon

Nigeria’s Super Eagles produced a dominant extra-time performance to defeat Gabon 4–1 and advance to the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Play-offs in Rabat, Morocco.

The thrilling encounter showcased Nigeria’s resilience and attacking flair as they overcame a spirited Gabonese side to move one step closer to a place at the global showpiece.

Sevilla striker Akor Adams opened the scoring in the 78th minute after sustained pressure from the Super Eagles, finishing calmly from close range.

Gabon, however, refused to surrender, and Mario Lemina levelled the score in the 89th minute to force the contest into extra time.

Nigeria rediscovered their rhythm in the additional period, with another Sevilla forward, Chidera Ejuke, restoring the lead in the 97th minute.

Star striker Victor Osimhen then took control, netting twice in the 102nd and 110th minutes to seal an emphatic win for Nigeria.

The Super Eagles will now face the winner of the other semi-final between Cameroon and DR Congo in the play-off final on Sunday, November 16.

Victory in that match would send Nigeria to the inter-confederation play-offs, keeping alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
