FEDERAL HIGH COURT HALTS PDP NATIONAL CONVENTION IN IBADAN AMID LEADERSHIP DISPUTE
A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a fresh restraining order, blocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its scheduled national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
In the ruling, Justice Peter Lifu also prohibited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring, supervising, or recognizing any results from the event, where the party intended to elect its national officers. The decision was reported by Channels Television.
The order stems from an ex parte application by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, who accused the PDP of unfairly denying him the chance to buy the nomination form for the national chairmanship race, effectively sidelining him from the process.
Lamido’s lawsuit highlights ongoing internal fractures within the opposition party, as it seeks to reorganize its leadership ahead of future elections. The convention’s suspension could further delay PDP’s efforts to consolidate its position, with potential implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.
