The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have crashed out of the U-17 African Cup Nations after a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to fellow West Africans Burkina Faso on Thursday.
The defeat for the young has dashed their hopes of qualifying for the 2023 U-17 World Cup and winning the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 16 years.
Two goals from Aboubacar Camara was very vital for the victory of the Burkinabe at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers.
It was a different ball game in the second half as the Eaglets forward Abubakar Abdullahi scored the only goal for his team midway.
While the defeat for Eaglets has taken them out of the the U-17 AFCON in Algeria, as well as seal a World Cup ticket, the victory for Burkina Faso has taken them through to the global tournament and the last four of the African tournament.
Despite making a fine start to the game with struggles to break Burkina Faso’s defence, Eaglets coach, Nduka Ugbade did not make any changes to the team that defeated South Africa 3-2 in their last group game.
The Burkinabe will now face tournament favourites, Senegal in the semi-finals of the tournament.
