NNAMDI KANU’S LAWYERS WITHDRAW FROM CASE
Abuja, Nigeria — Former Attorney-General of the Federation and lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), has withdrawn from representing him in the ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Agabi announced his withdrawal during Thursday’s proceedings, October 23, 2025, informing the court that his client had chosen to take full control of his legal defense going forward.
Following Agabi’s announcement, other Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on Kanu’s legal team also formally withdrew from the case.
Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021, faces a seven-count charge bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony filed by the Federal Government.
The development adds a new twist to the prolonged legal battle, which has seen multiple adjournments and repeated court orders granting Kanu’s release, yet to be enforced by the authorities.
