FOOTBALL: Nwabali, Bamayi Nominated for 2025 CAF Awards

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been nominated for the 2025 CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the list of nominees on its official X handle on Wednesday.

Nwabali, who has been a standout performer for Nigeria, will be competing against some of the continent’s best goalkeepers for the prestigious honour.

Also making the shortlist is Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bamayi, who has been nominated in the Young Player of the Year category.

Bamayi impressed at the just-concluded FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where he led Nigeria to the Round of 16. He scored two goals — both from the penalty spot — in matches against Saudi Arabia (3–2 win) and Colombia (1–1 draw).

The CAF Awards, which celebrate Africa’s best footballers and teams across various categories, will hold later this year.
