GRAMMY AWARDS 2026:Nigerian Singers Target Major Categories
The race for the 2026 Grammy Awards is heating up, with over 1,000 songs competing for just eight spots in the Song of the Year category. According to Billboard, this year’s 1,015 entries make it the most competitive category at the awards.
Top Nigerian artists Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr have all submitted their songs for consideration in major categories such as Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best African Music Performance. Since the launch of the Best African Music Performance category in 2023, the Grammys have become an even bigger stage for Nigerian musicians to shine globally.
Wizkid’s album Morayo and Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness are both submitted for Album of the Year, while Ayra Starr’s Hot Body is up for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Collaborations like Wizkid and Olamide’s Billionaires Club, and Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, are also eyeing nominations in the Best African Music Performance and Best Music Video categories.
Voting for the 68th Grammy Awards opened on 3 October and closes on 15 October, with official nominees to be announced on 7 November 2025. The main ceremony will take place on 1 February 2026 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
