Oyo Physically Challenged Students Demand Hygienic Food, Basic Amenities, and Protection of Rights

Physically challenged students of the Omoyeni Home for the Blind in Oyo State on Friday staged a protest to demand access to hygienic food, construction of basic amenities, and the protection of their fundamental human rights.

The protest, which began around 9 a.m., saw the students carrying placards and chanting songs to express displeasure over what they described as government neglect.

Some of the students, who spoke to journalists, alleged that officials were systematically forcing them out of hostel facilities within their school premises. They further claimed that newly admitted JSS1 physically challenged students were being denied accommodation in the hostels.

The protesters also accused the Director General of the Oyo State Agency for People with Disabilities, Barrister Ayodele Adekanbi, of harassment and failure to address their welfare needs.

The Oyo State Government has yet to issue an official response at the time of filing this report.
