Nigerian Government Cancels Independence Day Parade, Other Events Remain

The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 1st, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.

The cancellation was confirmed on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The statement clarified that the decision does not diminish the significance of the 65th anniversary milestone. All other programs and events slated for the Independence Anniversary will proceed as planned.

The government expressed its deep regret for any inconvenience caused by the sudden cancellation. It appreciated the understanding and cooperation of all Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests. The government concluded by urging citizens to continue supporting the ongoing reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at national progress.
