NOA Urges Public Relations Practitioners To Spearhead National Values
Director-General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu has charged members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to champion the responsibility of national identity and values promotion campaign in the country.
Issa-Onilu made this call at the monthly general meeting of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of NIPR held at Abuja
According to Issa-Onilu, public relations practitioners have a vital role to play in nation building, noting that Nigeria must transcend being a mere geographical entity and become a true nation bound by shared values and identity.
“We all have a responsibility, especially those of us in this noble profession of Public Relations. It is our duty to work to ensure that this country achieves the objectives we all have in mind,” he said.
He said NOA, in collaboration with NIPR, is working assiduously to define and promote the Nigerian identity, insisting that a brand cannot be effectively marketed without first identifying its core attributes.
The NOA Director-General further disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was committed to unveiling the Nigeria Identity Project, which according to him, will be predicated on the National Values Charter.
The charter, he explained, would drive campaigns for a shared national identity that reflects the values and aspirations of all Nigerians.
Issa-Onilu argued that professionals in the field of public relations would be expected to play key roles in the success of these initiatives, describing them as “very important national assignments.”
Responding, the President of NIPR, Dr Ike Neliaku, expressed the preparedness of the institute to partner NOA on national values reorientation.
He said beyond the collaboration, NIPR is spearheading initiatives from the private sector’s perspective through its Rebirth Nigeria programme.
