President Tinubu to Diaspora: Nigeria Is on the Rise Again
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians living abroad to bring their skills and resources back home, emphasizing that the country is on the path to a new era of growth. Speaking at a meeting with the Nigerian community in Yokohama, Japan, during the Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD 9), the President highlighted his administration’s commitment to creating a stable environment for all citizens.
The President stressed that national development requires a collective effort from both Nigerians at home and abroad. He assured the diaspora that significant progress is being made, citing improvements in passport issuance and economic reforms that are attracting investment and creating jobs. He asked, “If you stay away, who will build it?” urging them to return and contribute to the nation’s future.
President Tinubu called on Nigerians overseas to serve as positive ambassadors for the country. He warned against negative portrayals, stating they hinder the investment and partnerships the nation needs to thrive. The President also noted that his administration is working to reverse the trend of medical tourism by upgrading healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality services.
Members of the Nigerian community in Japan expressed their support for the government’s reforms and pledged to explore new ways to get involved in the country’s transformation. The President’s message, that the strength of citizenship lies in character and commitment rather than just a passport, resonated with the attendees, who affirmed their readiness to contribute to Nigeria’s progress.
