KWAM 1 Apologizes Over Airport Incident, Denies Alcohol Claims

Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has issued a heartfelt public apology following a controversial incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 5, 2025.

In his apology, the veteran artiste described the altercation with ValueJet staff as “unfortunate” and expressed regret for any concern it caused. He emphatically denied claims that the flask he carried contained alcohol, instead affirming that it contained only water—a vital necessity due to his chronic dehydration and medical advice to stay hydrated. He clarified that the flask was empty during two security screenings and only filled after clearing those checkpoints, a fact he said can be verified via CCTV footage .

KWAM 1 tendered an unreserved apology to the Presidency, Aviation Ministry, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and his global fan base. He reiterated his unwavering patriotism and commitment as an ambassador of Nigerian music and culture .

The apology comes amid growing scrutiny, with the Aviation Minister directing his placement on a no-fly list pending investigation. Authorities criticized his conduct as a safety breach—likening it to a “hostage situation” for reportedly blocking the aircraft from taxiing .
