NIGERIAN NAVY SET TO ESTABLISH MILITARY BASE IN KEBBI AIMED AT TACKLING INSECURITY
In a major boost to internal security and maritime surveillance, the Nigerian Navy has concluded plans to establish a full-fledged naval base in Yauri, Kebbi State.
The disclosure was made on Thursday during a courtesy visit by a high-powered naval delegation to Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
The delegation, led by Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu, represented the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
Rear Admiral Nwatu said the decision to expand naval presence to Yauri forms part of the Navy’s evolving maritime strategy, particularly to secure inland waterways and curb criminal activities along the River Niger.
“River Niger, despite its immense contributions to agriculture, power, and livelihood, is increasingly being exploited by criminal elements for smuggling arms and other illicit activities.
