Why Ogun Psychiatric Hospital Suspended Student of Nursing

-Ogun Psychiatric hospital explains why A Nursing Student Was suspended

The Provost and Medical Director of Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr Paul Agboola, said a Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing student, Seyi Ogunjobi, who accused the Head of Clinical Services of the hospital, Dr Olayinka Majekodunmi, of assaulting him, was suspended after his allegations were found to be “spurious and unsubstantiated.”

The hospital’s branch of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives had held a peaceful protest over the alleged assault of the student nurse.

The nurses expressed concern that Ogunjobi who filed a petition was suspended, while the accused walked freely.

The body threatened strike if the suspension is not reversed within 24 hours.

Speaking with newsmen on Saturday at the hospital, Agboola admitted that there was a petition by Ogunjobi alleging verbal and physical assault on him by Majekodunmi, a top echelon in the hospital.

In the petition, the petitioner said during a ward round on June 30, Majekodunmi in an ensuing altercation over some chairs, physically assaulted him and also used foul language like “Are you okay?” “You’re stupid” “You’re a bastard.”

The provost explained that during an investigation into the matter both the petitioner and the accused were summoned to appear separately with their witnesses.

Agboola said Ogunjobi appeared with a witness, who is a staff nurse, but the duo could not prove the allegations of physical assault against Majekodunmi.

On the part of Majekodunmi, the provost said he presented about 12 witnesses to defend his case.

He described the decision to suspend Ogunjobi as a corrective measure to serve as deterrent.

The provost also read out a text message said to have been sent to him by father of the nursing student who “agreed” with the decision but begged the management to temper justice with mercy.

MD said that the management has met with other unions of the hospital over the incident and will meet with the nurses’ union on Monday to further resolve the crisis.
