The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is here with the April 28, 2023 edition to promote awareness and reduce occupational diseases and accidents worldwide.
With this’s year’s theme: ‘A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work’, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) brings together experts and constituents to discuss the implications it has for the world of work, as well as how to practically implement this right in the world of work.
It also serves to present the findings of research on the implementation status of various provisions of the fundamental Conventions No. 155 and No. 187.
Going memory lane, this strategy gained importance by the establishment a culture of safety and health, after the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the pandemic, the effective OSH system had meaningful engagement from governments, employers, employees, public health actors, and other important parties at the national and company levels.
Considering the objective of avoiding workplace accidents and diseases, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) is observing the World Day in 2003.
The day overlaps with the International Day of Remembrance for the Dead and Injured Workers, which has been observed by the labour movement since 1996.
