Mangun Killings: Police Arraign 20 Suspects in Plateau Court
The Plateau State Police Command has arraigned 20 individuals before a state High Court in connection with the June 20 killings of 12 people in Mangun, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspects face a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, grievous bodily harm, and culpable homicide, in violation of Sections 59, 313, and 189 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law of 2017.
According to the prosecution, led by Officer-in-Charge of Legal, Samuel Idowu Ikutanwa, the accused allegedly conspired and armed themselves with dangerous weapons—firearms, cutlasses, machetes, and petrol—to carry out the attack.
The incident reportedly left 21 persons injured and resulted in the death of 12 others, who were burnt alive in an 18-seater bus set ablaze by the assailants.
All 20 defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their plea, the prosecution requested an adjournment for a case management hearing. Defense counsel Garuba Pwul (SAN) did not oppose the request but presented a motion for bail, which was not heard as the prosecution had just been served during the court proceedings.
Presiding judge Justice Boniface Ingyou adjourned the matter to October 13, 2025, for case management. The defendants were ordered to remain in custody at the Jos custodial centre.
