Court Sentences Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to Death by Hanging for Murder of NYSC Member Salome Adaidu
LAFIA, Nasarawa State — A High Court sitting in Lafia has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of Salome Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Delivering the judgment, Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide for killing and dismembering the female corps member. The court held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Ajayi was charged with one count of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which prescribes capital punishment for offenders.
The tragic killing of Salome Adaidu sparked public outrage when news of her death first emerged during her mandatory national service. The sentencing brings a legal closure to a case that drew nationwide attention.
The court’s ruling reaffirms the judiciary’s stand against gender-based violence and heinous crimes, especially those targeting young Nigerians serving their country.
