Explosion Rocks Port Harcourt Filling Station, Injures Fiv
An explosion at the cooking gas section of the Nobpet fuelling station opposite the Air Force junction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, left at least five people injured on Friday.
The blast, which triggered a massive fire, engulfed the entire gas section of the station and spread rapidly, destroying over eight vehicles parked near the adjacent Ebonyi State Transport Corporation office.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as thick black smoke billowed into the sky, with residents and passersby scrambling for safety. The explosion caused significant damage to surrounding property and disrupted traffic in the area.
A coordinated response by the Rivers State Fire Service and the Nigerian Air Force Fire Service helped bring the blaze under control, preventing further destruction and potential casualties.
As of the time of this report, the cause of the explosion remains unknown, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Emergency responders have evacuated the injured victims to nearby hospitals for treatment, with their conditions yet to be officially disclosed.
