UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Announces Plan to Tighten Immigration Rule
LONDON – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced plans to enforce stricter immigration controls, vowing that the number of migrants entering the United Kingdom will fall under his administration.
Speaking ahead of the release of a new White Paper on Monday, Starmer said the government will tighten regulations across all areas of the immigration system, aiming to reduce what he described as “unsustainable” migration levels.
Among the proposed changes are more rigorous English language proficiency requirements and stricter conditions for the recruitment of overseas care workers. The plan is part of broader efforts by the Labour-led government to reform immigration and labour policies.
“We will not shy away from the hard decisions needed to restore control and fairness to our borders,” the prime minister stated, emphasizing that the changes are designed to prioritize domestic workforce development while managing economic demands.
The White Paper is expected to outline further reforms targeting student visas, skilled worker routes, and asylum procedures.
