ASUU Elects Prof. Chris Piwuna as New National Presiden
BENIN CITY – The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Prof. Chris Piwuna as its new National President, following the conclusion of the union’s 23rd National Delegates Congress held in Benin on Sunday.
Prof. Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital and Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jos, succeeds Prof. Victor Osodeke, a soil science expert from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
The election marks a new chapter for ASUU, which has played a central role in shaping higher education policy in Nigeria. Piwuna previously served as ASUU’s National Vice President and is expected to bring continuity and renewed focus to the union’s engagements with government and education stakeholders.
The union did not immediately release further details of the new executive team but reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for improved university funding, academic freedom, and staff welfare.
