Anambra, Lagos Top List in 2025 UTME Malpractice Cases – JAM

Anambra and Lagos states have emerged with the highest number of suspected candidates involved in examination malpractice during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), according to data released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Board’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday. He revealed that 80 suspects are currently being interrogated by the police over various infractions recorded during the UTME registration and examination processes.

According to Prof. Oloyede, JAMB observed new methods of examination fraud this year, including identity and biometric manipulation involving the combined thumbprints of candidates and impersonators during registration—acts allegedly facilitated by some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. Other tactics included double registration and candidates attempting to substitute themselves with impersonators.

Anambra State recorded the highest number of offenders, with 14 suspects arrested—13 for impersonation and one for picture mismatch. Lagos followed with nine suspects involved in impersonation, spying, and illegal possession of mobile phones.

JAMB reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of its examinations and warned candidates, parents, and CBT centres against any form of malpractice, emphasizing that violators will face full legal consequences.
