NDIC Pays ₦46.6 Billion to Heritage Bank Depositors as Liquidation Dividends Begin

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has commenced the payment of ₦46.6 billion to depositors of the defunct Heritage Bank, marking the first tranche of liquidation dividends for customers with balances exceeding the insured limit.

This was disclosed in a press statement made available to newsmen by the Corporation today.

The payout, which began on April 25, 2025, is sourced from the proceeds of asset sales and debt recoveries from the defunct bank. Eligible depositors are receiving 9.2 kobo per naira on the portion of their funds above the ₦5 million maximum insured by the NDIC.

Recall that following the revocation of Heritage Bank’s license by the Central Bank of Nigeria in June 2024, the NDIC swiftly reimbursed insured depositors by leveraging their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to credit alternate bank accounts.

The Corporation assured that more payments would follow as additional assets are realized and outstanding debts recovered. It urged depositors who are yet to receive their payments to visit the nearest NDIC office or complete the verification process via its official website.

NDIC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting depositors and ensuring the complete recovery of eligible funds from the failed bank.
