President Bola Tinubu has mandated an immediate and comprehensive review of Nigeria’s national security strategies, demanding urgent action to halt the rising violence plaguing Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states. Following a prolonged meeting with security chiefs in Abuja, Tinubu expressed his outrage over the persistent killings of innocent civilians, declaring “Enough is enough.”
National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, revealed that the President received detailed briefings on the recent attacks, including casualty figures and property destruction. Ribadu emphasized that Tinubu, even during his international trip to Paris and London, maintained close contact and issued directives. The President has now ordered a new approach to combat the escalating insecurity, stressing the need for enhanced collaboration with local and state governments.
Tinubu emphasized the critical role of local councils and state governments in addressing community-level security challenges. He instructed security agencies to work closely with these subnational entities to ensure effective and lasting solutions. The President’s concern was palpable, with Ribadu conveying his determination to restore peace and security across the affected regions.
Ribadu highlighted the attackers’ tactics, which include planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and exploiting ungoverned territories. The security agencies have assured the President of their commitment to implementing the new directives and restoring stability.
