The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for emergency runway rehabilitation works.
This was disclosed in a press release issued by the The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Obiageli, on Saturday
Orah explains that the action was necessitated by the need to address a “sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway, in compliance with the Nigerian Civil Aviation regulations
She further says the repairs will be conducted on that portion of the runway from April 22 to May 6, 2025
All flights to the Enugu airport will be diverted to nearby airports over this period
Orah apologises to the public for the sudden closure of the facility and appeals to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this time.
You will recall that the management of Air Peace had suspended all flights scheduled to Akanu Ibiam International Airport which it attributed to the deteriorating state of the infrastructure, thereby raising safety concerns.
