2026 World Cup Playoffs: Super Eagles Suspend Strike, Resume Training

The Super Eagles have resumed training ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash with Gabon after boycotting Tuesday’s session over unpaid bonuses and allowances.

The players and officials had refused to train on Tuesday in protest, demanding that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) settle their outstanding entitlements.

However, following a reconciliatory meeting with top officials of both bodies, the team returned to the pitch on Wednesday evening.

The training session kicked off at 5 p.m. local time, with Head Coach Eric Chelle having the full complement of all 23 invited players available.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the Panthers of Gabon in the first semi-final of the playoffs at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex on Thursday.
