2026 WORLD CUP PLAY-OFF: Key Gabon Defender Mick Omfia Ruled Out

The Super Eagles have received a major boost ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff clash against Gabon, as the Panthers will be without one of their most dependable defenders, Mick Omfia.

The 24-year-old Hafia FC centre-back has been ruled out of the match scheduled for November 13 in Rabat, Morocco, after accumulating two yellow cards in the qualification series.

Omfia received bookings in Gabon’s 4–0 victory over Seychelles in September and again during their final group-stage fixture against Burundi on October 14, triggering an automatic suspension under FIFA’s disciplinary rules.

The defender’s absence will be a significant blow for head coach Thierry Mouyouma, as Omfia has been a key part of Gabon’s defensive setup in recent months, starting five of their last six international fixtures and helping the team record four clean sheets.

At club level, Omfia has been in fine form for Hafia FC, featuring in three of the Guinean side’s four CAF Confederation Cup matches this season, further underlining his rising stature on the continent.

The Super Eagles will be hoping to capitalise on his absence as they push for a place in the final playoff round of the World Cup qualifiers.
