President Bola Tinubu has urged the Government of the People’s Republic of China to increase the $2 billion currency swap between Nigeria and China to boost trade between the two nations.
He also called for an increase in the $50 billion aid package for Africa announced last year by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Recently, China and Nigeria renewed their currency swap agreement, valued at 15 billion yuan (approximately $2 billion), to promote trade and investment.
During a meeting with China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, at the State House, President Tinubu stated that raising the level of currency swaps would accelerate infrastructural development in Nigeria and strengthen the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries.
Discussing security issues in West Africa, Wang Yi stated that China believes there should be no foreign interference in the internal affairs of African countries.
