Dr. Patrick Ilo Shares Entrepreneurial Insights At RBSN Business Fair

The CEO of Petrocam Trading Nigeria Limited, Dr. Patrick Ilo, a keynote speaker at the Rome Business School Nigeria Business fair, held on Wednesday, November 4, 2024, at the Marcelina’s Place GRA Ikeja, says wealth creation is about innovation, creativity, sustainability, and collaboration.

In his speech, the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) graduate from Rome Business School Nigeria, shared insights on what every entrepreneur needs, in order to be relevant and succeed in business, especially in contemporary times.

Emphasising the need for collaboration, Dr. Ilo stressed that collaboration was one of the reasons participants came to the venue of the fair, which was organised by Rome Business School Nigeria, specifically to connect with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders. Exhibitors were also given opportunities to expand their network and promote their brand to a diverse audience.

In his words, ‘’creation of wealth is about creativity, innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. And that is exactly what we are doing here today. We are all collaborating with one person or the other in bringing the best out of us.’’

Speaking further, Dr. Ilo made comments on the need to acknowledge the vibrancy of the youth in this generation and the impact that are making in modern businesses.

‘’Today, I am going to look at it from different perspectives. Most of Nigeria’s enterprises are driven by youthful resource population. A lot of people, especially Gen Zs, the millennials, are highly cerebral people bringing a lot of things into the market.  A lot of things are coming in today, based on gender, young vibrant, experienced, talented Nigerians.’’

Speaking on the funnel method, which is the world, Africa, and Nigeria, Dr. Ilo said a lot of start-ups are leveraging on many initiatives. He cited an example of a lecture he delivered in a fintech company called Payaza, with a focus on small and medium-scale enterprises and how they are using the fastest-growing areas for venture capitalists to drive it.

Stressing on Payaza, Dr. Ilo said within a short period of their emergence, many people have started using the financial institution for transactions.

Going memory lane, Dr. Ilo revealed that the private sector from the 1980s experienced a change, but the digital revolution of the 21st century further accelerated entrepreneurial activities.

Other nuggets Dr. Ilo reeled out to the audience included the need for entrepreneurs to be honest, know about corporate governance, have transparent communication and impactful partnerships, embrace sustainable growth, and have the right attitude because it will determine how far they can go.

While commenting on the need not to be seen everywhere, stressing that you don’t see a man going everywhere, he advocated the need to promote green technology, reduce waste, and promote an eco-friendly environment.
