US Offers N43 Million Reward for Arrest of Nigerian Father Accused of killing Son

The United States government has announced a $25,000 (approximately N43 million) reward for information leading to the capture of Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a Nigerian fugitive wanted for the alleged murder of his three-month-old son in Rhode Island, USA.

Olawusi, 48, was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution after the child was found severely injured in 2017. The case, which has drawn widespread attention, led to the discovery that the infant had suffered bodily injuries across 18 parts of his body.

Following the incident on April 3, 2017, Olawusi was arrested but was later released while awaiting trial. However, he went into hiding and has remained at large since.

In a statement, Don Freeman, Supervisory Deputy of the U.S. Marshals, confirmed that Olawusi had been placed on the “15 Most Wanted” fugitives list, underscoring the seriousness of the charges.

“A man wanted in Rhode Island on charges of murder, inflicting serious bodily injury to a child, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution has been added to the U.S. Marshals Service 15 Most Wanted fugitives list,” Freeman said.

The reward is being offered for any leads that may assist in his capture.
