Cholera Outbreak: Borno, Adamawa, and Kano Emerge Epicentres

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says it has deployed rapid response teams and launched high-level advocacy campaigns to tackle the growing cholera outbreak, with the number of infections doubling compared to the same period last year.

As of October 13, 2024, Nigeria has recorded a total of 14,237 cholera cases across 35 states and the federal capital territory, resulting in 378 deaths. This brings the case fatality ratio to approximately 2.7%.

NCDC has identified Borno, Adamawa, and Kano as the epicentres of the outbreak.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the director general, Dr. Jide idris, attributed the rise in cases to recent heavy rains and flooding, particularly in the northern states.
