Veteran actress Joke Silva has advocated for the complete elimination of all types of sexual harassment directed at women within the film industry, as well as the dismantling of negative stereotypes.
Silva, who serves as the President of the Forum of Women in Film and TV, Nigeria, made these remarks during the Women in Film and TV Conference held on Wednesday in Lagos. She emphasized,
“The role of women in the film industry is crucial for the development of our nation; therefore, it is essential to create a safe and supportive environment for them to flourish.
The presence of sexual harassment in the film industry must be eradicated, as it undermines our society in ways that are often unimaginable.”
Furthermore, she highlighted the necessity of eliminating all negative stereotypes portrayed in films, noting that certain depictions do not accurately reflect reality.
“It is essential to increase the representation of women in government to formulate policies and enhance our position within the nation,” she stated.
