The 8th National Youth Games earlier scheduled to commence on September 10, 2024, will now begin a day earlier on September 9, 2024.
Minister for Sports Development Senator John Enoh, represented, said the shift in date is due to the Edo State Governorship election and associated restriction of movement in the State.
It’s a joint Technical Meeting of the 8th National Youth Games attended by sports officials and other players in Nigerian sports across the country.
The meeting in two sessions, featured Inspection of Various Facilities and Venues for hosting the Games in Asaba.
Minister of sports development, John Enoh,said the shift in date is to enable contingents from the South West who would pass through Edo State on their way back to their states escape the restriction of movement ahead of the Edo Governorship election.
He also revealed that the zonal eliminations would commence on August 28 and end on 1st September, while registration would be online from August 24 to 28.
The Minister appealed to relevant authorities to speed up renovation of some faulty facilities spotted during the inspection tour of the stadium, to ensure a hitch free hosting of the games.
