D’Tigress of Nigeria have been drawn against the US in the quarter-final of women’s basketball event at 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Rena Wakama-led ladies qualified for Nigeria’s first-ever appearance in the last eight of the Olympics basketball tournament after defeating Canada 79-70 in their last group game on Sunday.
The team secured five classification points and was top of Group B until Australia defeated France 79-72 in the other group game.
The lost dropped D’Tigress to the third in the group, with the French and Australians above them in the seedings for the quarter-final.
Nigeria is scheduled to face the US, the defending champions, on August 7 at 9:30 pm (8:30pm Nigerian time)
The game will be the second time both nations will face each other at the Olympic Games.
At the Tokyo Olympics, D’Tigress lost to the Americans by 9 points in their opening group game.
The teams also competed in the 2024 Olympics qualifiers, and D’Tigress lost heavily to the Americans.
In other quarter-final games, Serbia will play Australia, Spain will take on Belgium, France will battle with Germany.
