Morocco on Wednesday beat Argentina 2-1 in a chaotic opener of the men’s Group B Paris 2024 Olympics football match in France.
Soufiane Rahimi scored two goals for Morocco, while Giuliano Simeone scored one goal for Argentina in the match which was marred by controversy after a pitch invasion by fans interrupted play for almost two hours, as Argentina’s equalizing goal was disallowed by VAR.
Renowned and talented player, Morocco captain, Achraf Hakimi, set up forward Rahimi for the opener at the end of a fine move in first-half stoppage time.
The Paris Saint-Germain full-back motivated the reigning African Under-23 champions to double their lead six minutes into the second half from the penalty spot, while UAE-based forward, Rahimi stroking in the spot-kick after Ilias Akhomach was brought down.
Interestingly, Simeone, son of former Argentina star Diego, came off the bench to pull one back midway through the second half, and Medina saved a point in the 106th minute.
