Notable personalities and guests have arrived at the venue of the funeral service in Rivers State, where the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc, Dr Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Doreen, and son, Chizzy will be buried on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Members of the clergy, traditional rulers from the Omoeke, Wigwe’s hometown and monarchs from Isiokpo, are some of the dignitaries are some of the people already at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State for the funeral service.
The governors of Bayelsa and River states, Senator Douye Diri, and Siminalayi Fubara, former Nigerian Ambassador to Scandinavian countries, Dr Godknows Igali and others are already at the venue amid tight security, led by the state commissioner of police, Olatunji Disu as there is a security beef-up within Isiokpo and its surroundings.
Prior to the funeral, the Christian wake was organised in honour of the deceased in the community on Friday which had Family members and friends attendance.
The management of Access Holdings Plc confirmed the death in an official statement on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
The statement partly read, “It is with deep sadness that the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) announces the passing of Dr Herbert Wigwe, CFR, the Company’s founding Group Chief Executive Officer and former Group Managing Director of its flagship subsidiary Access Bank Plc (‘the Bank’).
