The African Cup of Nations tournament holding in Ivory Coast will be broadcasted on DStv.
Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, on Wednesday made the announcement that the AFCON game is scheduled to hold between January 13 and February 11, 2024 will be aired on on its channels.
Prior to this development it announced last Wednesday, that it wouldn’t be broadcasting on its platform because it failed to secure the broadcasting rights of the continent’s biggest footballing event on its SuperSport channels.
It said, “SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.
“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels.
“Multichoice Africa remains committed to ensuring football fans across Africa continue to enjoy unrivaled access to entertainment and football games available on DStv and GOtv platforms including, the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Zambian Super League, and many more of football’s most prestigious competitions.”
However, making a U-turn on it’s earlier decision Wednesday via X, @DstvNg announced that it will broadcast all the 52 matches on Supersports.
it tweeted, “No gree for anybody! Watch all 52 matches of the #afcon2023 on @supersports.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Television Authority, on Wednesday, had announced earlier it would be transmitting all the 52 AFCON matches.
The Africa’s largest TV network made this known on its X handle, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Afro Sports.
It tweeted, “NTA signs Memorandum of Understanding with Afro Sports for transmission of 52 matches of Africa Cup Of Nations in Cote D’ivoire.”
