Ivorian former professional footballer, Didier Drogba, has been appointed head coach of his country’s football national team.
The Chelsea legend who has a four-year contract with the Ivorian national team has a task to win the next two Africa Cup of Nations ( 2024 and 2025) and lead Cote d’Ivoire to win the 2026 World Cup.
Drogba, while speaking at a press conference made comments on his appointment. In his words, “It’s a pleasure for me to be back in Africa and starting my coaching career with my country. I talked with Yaya Touré to join me as an assistant coach and I’m waiting for his decision, maybe he will accept to join me”, he said.
He also revealed that the “The president of the country sir Alassane Ouattara wants to see Cote d’Ivoire players holding the 2026 World Cup title, I will be expelled from my country definitely and my nationality will be withdrawn from me if I do not achieve this goal,”
Interestingly, this is the first experience for Drogba in his coaching career as a coach after getting the UEFA PRO license.
