At least eight students and a security guard have died after a shooting at Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in Serbia’s capital Belgrade.
A government statement revealed that another six pupils and a teacher were injured in the attack and have been taken to hospital.
So far, the Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the attack at the Vladislav Ribnikar school.
The suspect’s classmates said he walked into a history class, first shot the teacher and then turned his weapon on his fellow students.
According to officials, the suspect is alleged to have used his father’s gun to carry out the act.
Officers in helmets and bulletproof vests cordoned off the area around the school shortly after 08:40 local time (07:40 GMT)
On the aftermath and effect of the parents have started calling hospitals to find out if their children are alive, BBC reports.
A mother of one of the children from the school in Belgrade while describing her child repeatedly over the phone said, “She has long hair and black jeans.”
In response to the situation, she and other parents are called every doctor and hospital in Belgrade they know.
Considering the severity of the incident, the streets around the school are in complete silence and anticipation – broken only, from time to time, by crying parents.
Parents are inquisitive to get update on the state or condition of their children, “Please tell us anything”, they are shouting at police officers.
Officers released a number of younger students from the school, one class at a time. a couple of hours ago, as parents rushed to meet and hug them, with eyes full of tears of joy.
