Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has made history after scoring his hundredth career goal in his club’s 2-0 win over Sassuolo on Friday, at Stadio Mapei – Citta del Tricolore.
The Nigerian international now ranks in the five fastest players to score 100 goals in only his 197th game, with a goal faster than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Other feats by Osimhen are his 197th appearance for both club and country after notching 85 goals for club and 15 for Nigeria.
This development occurred in the 33rd minute when he grabbed the second goal for Napoli after a superb effort from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had shot the club into the lead in the 12th minute.
Osimhen’s outstanding achievement has surpassed that of Ronaldo, the world’s greatest goalscorer who bagged his ton after 301 games, while Argentinian World Cup winner, Messi scored his century after 210 games.
Interestingly, Osimhen who was replaced in the 83rd minute by Giovanni Simeone, scored his 18th Serie A goal of the season in 19 games.
Going memory lane, Osimhen plied his trade at RSC Charleroi and Lille, after making his professional debut for Wolfsburg in 2017.
In 2020, he moved to Napoli and scored 47 goals for the Serie A side in 85 games.
Osimhen now ranks as the third fastest player to score 100 career goals after World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, who achieved his century after 180 games and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, surpassed his ton after 146 matches.
