The year 2021 has come to an end with so many events Nigeria, but there are some others that are notable and can’t be forgotten by people of the country.

The significance of the events, have created a situation whereby Nigerians can’t easily forget the occurrences- rather, they have all remained fresh in the memories of most Nigerians.

In no particular order is the Release of Tiwa Salvage’s Sex Tape

The release of the sex tape of Nigerian music artiste, Tiwa Savage and her boyfriend which went viral on social media in October.

The award-winning singer who claimed that she wanted to be blackmailed with the video reacted during an interview before after the alleged tape went viral.

The most interesting aspect of the event which triggered a lot of comments, especially in Nigeria was the reaction of social media users and fans of the Afro-beats singer.


The Suspension of Twitter In Nigeria

The second most notable event on the list is Federal Government’s indefinite suspension of micro-blogging and social networking service Twitter, in Nigeria in the month of June.

The suspension was announced in a statement in Abuja, by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who claimed that the reason for the suspension, was because the platform was used for activities which are capable of undermining Nigeria corporate existence.


The Death of Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua

The sudden passing on of Nigerian preacher, televangelist, and founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Temitope Balogun Joshua on Sunday June 5.

His death which attracted comments from many people was a shock to Nigerians, Christians, and a whole lot of people globally.

Another major reason for the comments was because the 57-year-old Prophet died some days before his birthday which was supposed to take place on the 12th day of June.


The Collapse of 21-Storey Building In Ikoyi

The collapse of the 21-storey building which occurred on the of 1st November on 44BCD Gerrard road, in the Ikoyi area of Lagos is the next on the list.

It was also recorded that lives were lost in the building which was under construction before the mishap happened. While efforts were made to rescue victims in the collapsed building, the incident triggered comments from many people, not only in Nigeria but globally.


Burna Boy’s Grammy Award

Renowned Nigerian music star, Damini Ogulu well known as Burna Boy got his name registered on this list after he won the most prestigious award in music globally, the Grammy Awards.

This feat by the talented artiste came after most Nigerians have been going as afar as getting nomination for the prestigious award. The 29-year-old’s album, “Twice as Tall” which was listed in the category of Best Global Music Awards, gave him the award which he won for the first time.

Before grabbing the award, his African Giant album was previously nominated for the award which Angelique Kidjoe won.


The Arrest of IPOB Nnamdi Kanu

The arrest of leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob), Nnamdi Kanu was also a notable event that took place in Nigeria in the year 2021.

Kanu was arrested after almost two years that the Nigerian government declared him wanted.

Justice Minister Abubakar Malami stated that his arrest Kanu was made possible by the cooperation from some foreign security never reveal till now.

Kanu is currently facing trial on terrorism charge in the country.


 Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s Emergence As Governor of Anambra State.

The former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo emerged as the governor of Anambra state after he won the gubernatorial election which took place place on November 6 and 9, 2021.

The election was characterised by other remarkable events; like the Southeast region experiencing numerous attacks and the banning of Ipob who announced that the di election won’t hold, if Nnamdi Kanu is not released.

Soludo a candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance scored 112,229 votes to defeat him closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party that scored 53,807 votes.

Soludo was declared winner by INEC after the election process was suspended for supplementary election to be held in 326 polling units in Ihiala local government area.


PSQUARE Reconciles

The entertainment industry went agog again after the surprised reconciliation that occurred between Nigerian twin music superstars, Peter and Paul Okoye.

The duo came back as again as PSquare after five years of division. The reunion was recorded as a message in a video on social media video. The video had Peter, Paul and Jude Okoye who all hugged each other.

After the reunion fans of the singers were happy and went ahead to congratulate them while commenting on social media.


The Death of Lieutenant-General Attahiru Ibrahim

The death of Late Lieutenant-General Attahiru Ibrahim in a Plane crash was a surprise to most Nigerians.

One of the reasons for their surprise was because Nigeria Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant-General Attahiru Ibrahim who assumed office in January 2021 died in a military plane with ten other officers in May this year. Interestingly, Ibrahim was charged to spearhead the fight against insurgency in Nigeria.


The Attack on Prison in Owerri

The attack on Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) in Owerri, Imo state capital south east Nigeria was also a notable event.

The term ‘Unknown gunmen’ became popular after the attack on the Nigerian correctional services.

The troublesome people caused a lot of mayhem in the Southeast region until they carried out attack on the prison in Owerri.
