The 2019 Emmy Awards has taken place with popular drama ‘Game of Thrones’ winning best drama.
It also got a record-setting 32 Emmy nominations for its eighth and final season while Buzzy comedy Fleabag took home Best Comedy.
The bloodthirsty saga’s total eclipsed the all-time series record of 27 nods earned by NYPD Blue in 1994, but the number of nominations didn’t necessarily lead to victory — except in the biggest category, Best Drama.
Peter Dinklage, who played the beloved-yet-troubled Tyrion Lannister on Thrones, won Best Supporting Actor in a drama. All other supporting actors from Thronesdidn’t win their respective awards, including onscreen sisters Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.
Costars Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke, who were both up in the lead acting categories, were also shut out.
The Best Actor, Drama and Best Actress, Drama went to Billy Porter in Pose and Jodie Comer in Killing Eve, respectively.
Showrunner Dan Weiss could not hold his feelings as he said, “Thank you to the hardest working crews in show business — the dragons who shot for 70 nights straight in freezing Belfast rain, the wolves who shot all around the world — you are amazing, all of you,”
