18 DEAD IN FATAL MULTIPLE-VEHICLE CRASH ON DUTSE-KIYAWA HIGHWAY
A devastating road traffic crash has claimed the lives of 18 persons along the Dutse–Kiyawa Highway at Dan Masara Quarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Tuesday.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the tragedy, with preliminary investigations pointing to excessive speed and a tyre burst as the primary causes, leading to loss of control and the multiple-vehicle collision.
The crash involved two commercial Volkswagen Golf vehicles—one white with registration number XA-500-KYW and the other red with registration number RAN-836-XA—along with a tipper truck.
Two others, believed to be the tipper driver and his assistant, sustained critical injuries and have been rushed to Dutse General Hospital, where the deceased were also taken.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, described the incident as avoidable and urged motorists to prioritise road safety, especially during this festive period.
The Corps has renewed calls for drivers to avoid speeding, ensure proper vehicle maintenance, and adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent further loss of lives. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. We will bring you more updates as the situation develops.
