The next Olubadan will now switch to the Otun line where former Oyo State governor, Rasheed Ladoja, is the highest-ranking member.
Ibadan, July 2025 – Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, former Governor of Oyo State (2003–2006, reinstated 2006–2007) and current Otun Olubadan (the highest-ranking chief on the civil line), is poised to ascend the revered throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Traditional Succession by Rotation
Ibadan’s unique chieftaincy system alternates succession between the civil (Egbe Agba) and military (Balogun) lines. With the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan from the Balogun line, the next monarch must come from the civil side. As the Otun Olubadan, Ladoja is the most senior and traditionally first in line .
