INEC Timetable
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has demanded the swearing in of captain Idris Wada as governor of Kogi State.
INEC chairman, professor Attahiru Jega addressed news men in Abuja on the wake of the supreme court judgment on tenure of the five governors. The INEC boss said the commission took the decision after due consultation with its legal team. The Kogi State governorship election, he said was a concluded issue, hence there was the need to swear in the governor elect as governor.
Meanwhile, the commission in line with the Apex Court ruling has fixed Saturday February 4th for the Adamawa State governorship election. While that of Bayelsa was rescheduled for February 11, Sokoto and Cross River will hold on the 18 and 25 of February respectively.
According to the INEC boss, the new dates were arrived at in view of the logistics and administrative requirement for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in the affected states.
Correspondent Lawrence Umoette reports that while Jega pledged commitment to abide by any court order on the decisions taken, only candidates that emerged from primaries conducted after the court of appeal judgment of April 15 2011 will be recognized to contests the governorship polls.
