The Chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC, Festus Odimegwu has resigned his appointment from the commission.
You may recall that the Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso had recently demanded the sack of Odimegwu for allegedly criticizing the work of his predecessor.
Odimegwu was issued a query by the Federal Government to explain the reasons for his utterances.
Speaking on the resignation, Special Assistant to the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi in a statement said President Goodluck Jonathan accepted the resignation of Odimegwu as Chairman of the National Population Commission with effect from Thursday, 17th of October.
The statement also said that President Jonathan has appointed Sam Ahaiwe, the Commissioner representing Abia state in the commission to act as Chairman pending the appointment of a substantive Chairman.
