Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed the secret cult abolition and prohibition amendment bill, 2017.
It replaces the previous seven-year imprisonment with death penalty for anybody found guilty of engaging in cultism.
The assembly also revised upward punishments for those aiding and abetting the practice from five-year to life imprisonment.
The lawmakers, led by the Speaker, Kola Oluwawole condemned the recent killing of students in higher institutions in the state and commended Governor Ayodele Fayose for the prompt executive bill.
