The senate has urged the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Health, states and local governments to be proactive in containing and preventing further spread of monkeypox disease.

This followed a motion sponsored by Senator Ali Wakili on the need to nip the outbreak of the disease in the bud.

Senator Wakili expressed worries that there are no specific treatments or availability of vaccine for monkey pox infections.

Lawmakers who spoke called for aggressive enlightenment of citizens on measures that can be taken to mitigate the risk factors of the virus; through sustained public health messages via the conventional media and the social media platforms.
